Everyday Magic

During the last eighteen years since first arriving in Orlando, I've watched as people from all over the world come to vacation, ready to play in one of the local theme parks.

Many have saved for years to have the experience of a lifetime. They are prepared to enjoy the magic, escaping the reality of their everyday life.

Then an interesting thing seems to happen. They may find themselves uncomfortable in the heat and humidity, struggling with the discontent of long lines. The attractions divert their attention for awhile, providing the magic they expect. Some are able to relax and enjoy, while others seem to struggle to have a good time.

Some people forget that wherever they go, there they are. Going on vacation seems like a good way to avoid the frustration of their job or to ignore their problems, which is what many experience. However, there are a couple of simple ways to make the journey beneficial.

First, before leaving home, be willing to suspend your reality enough to leave your problems behind. Chances are they might still be there when you return. Until then, you can just let go of them.

Then, as you move through your time away, have a sense of wonderment and curiosity. Seek out the beauty that is all around. Try new things and delight in your child-like ability to discover new feelings of joy and passion.

In a short time, you may sense an unexpected ease as you are perhaps friendlier with those around you and more patient with those situations which are out of your control.

Before returning home, reflect on all the good things that occurred during your trip. Realize that the magic you came for is not exclusive to your vacation. You can take what you've learned back home and apply it to your life.

Everyday magic is available to you in your everyday reality. You might find it easier to tackle those problems you left behind. You might even look forward to going to work as your previous frustrations become more tolerable. Your creative side can even find simple solutions to ease the situations.

In NLP and DHE, we learn that you can feel good at any time for no reason at all. So I ask, why wait for a vacation to have magic in your life? Create that magic in your life now. Make everyday a vacation.
