Dave Dobson PhD is well known for his O.T.C.C. (Other-Than-Conscious Communication™) and No Fault Psychology™ He was a very effective, legendary Psychologist and Clinical Hypnotherapist for over 50 years.

Dave will be greatly missed since his passing on 22 February, 2008. The last Fun Shop he and Barbara did together was in 2006 and he was in such poor health that Barbara, his life/professional partner and heir taught the Fun Shop in 2007 with some help from Dave while in the hospital or "hotel", as he called it.  Barbara continues to do Fun Shops as it was his wish that she continue. He taught and prepared her to carry on  his work. Together, Dave and Barb spent 90 years using and teaching Hypnosis.

What is Other Than Conscious Communication?

To Quote Dave. "Literally, every thing we do, the way we do it, constitutes our communications. It has also been said that only a small percentage of our communication is verbal, that a far greater aspect  of our communication is non-verbal," or outside of our conscious awareness." I prefer referring to this aspect" as other than conscious " (This should not be surprising in view of he myriad tasks that our mind controls daily like coordinating our muscles for walking, remembering how to die our shoes, etc. All outside of our conscious awareness, we are just able to do the things without having to think about them) 

Since the turn of the century, to the beginning to the industrial revolution, our society and our schools have focused more and more attention on the written and spoken word virtually ignoring the aspects of  behavior that resisted codification.

From time to time, there have been efforts to recognize the other aspects of our communication process, such as appreciation of an animals "territorial imperatives" and "body language", but the refinements of the different "modalities" has been virtually ignored and even when it is respected through the teachings of "neuro-linguistic structures" such NLP, the overall appreciation of the total communication is not appreciated.

Other Than Conscious Communication is real. It can be consciously validated, appreciated, and with this appreciation frees the individual to be even more courteous at both the conscious and other than conscious levels of communication"

It is important to realize that Dave created on his own this intellectual property and that he came up with these concepts and terms in the early 1970s.

There are not now and never have been any co-creators or co-developers of Other-Than-Conscious Communication™ or No Fault Psychology™. It is his creation alone.

It is his legacy and Barb his life partner, heir, designated keeper of his life's work, is to "ride herd" on his work. Barb continues to publish his work and do Fun Shops.

Dave came from a background that included both business, a private practice of Clinical Hypnotherapy, and psychotherapy that spanned more than 45 years in Los Angeles and the west coast.

His business background included owner and manager of a highly successful executive search firm, and division manager and director of sales for an international plastics company, with a sales force of over 200 people.

These experiences and his need to find models of communication that work led him to the development of concepts that he calls "Other Than Conscious Communication^™" which is an outgrowth of his model of psychology that he calls "No Fault Psychology™."

Dave moved to the San Juan Islands in 1977 and I, Barbara was invited to join him in his work later. We held many Fun Shops and saw many clients on our beloved island. Dave had traveled well over a million miles conducting seminars and trainings throughout North America and Europe, and his concepts which transcend traditional communication and psychological models have become highly respected tools for personal growth both in the mental health fields and the corporate opportunity to work with Dave, or as Dave often said: "Life is uncertain, eat dessert first!"
